Kingdom Death: Monster - New Ticatown - Lantern Years 1 & 2

In the darkness lit only by lanterns four people awoke, dried ink fading from their eyes.  Red eyes glowed in the darkness and a terrible roar caused a fetid breeze.  Scrambling in terror, the four found sharp stones from the faces beneath their feet and turned to face the creature. The huge white lion prowled forward and the struggle of life and death began.

The Survivors Ignis, Ramsey, Gun Boat and McGhee fought bravely or insanely depending on your perspective.  McGhee struck a most savage blow, removing the creatures testicles.  The beast was finally brought down with several well thrown stones.  They salvaged what they could from the corpse and set off into the darkness.

In the distance a light glowed.  The survivors came to a large lantern mound with ten other scared people at its base. On that day, New Tica Town was born.  Working together in a Symposium, the fourteen survivors worked to build a Bone Smith, Skinner and Organ Grinder.  Crafting weapons of bone and rawhide armor the survivors prepared for another hunt.

McGhee being to busy contemplating the meaning of life, stayed in the settlement. A female named Maize joined Ignis, Ramsey and Gunboat on their hunt for another White Lion.  On the hunt they faced several hard ships.  Maize lost her clothing to bladed grass.  Ignis suffered a heavy leg injury when a large stone face erupted from the ground and tried to consume him. The group also crossed disturbing flesh like ground.  They survived and closed in around their prey.

Hiding in the tall grass, the survivors moved closer only to be driven back by their prey’s terrible roars.  Maize found a scrap pile near the tall grasses and discovered a Scrap Sword.  Gun Boat attacked with her bone darts from the grasses.  Ramsey charged at the creature with his bone axe while Ignis stabbed the beast with his bone dagger.  Maize with her new found sword also caused severe damage.

Wounded, the creature roared again.  To the others horror, Ramsey fell to the ground dead, blood pouring from his ears. (Brain Trauma - Mortal Terror)  In a rage, the others fell upon the creature and quickly slew it. Deciding that their friend should be honored, they built Ramsey a grave (Death Principle:Graves). They they took whatever viable parts they could from the beast and returned to New Ticatown.

Upon return to the settlement, they found the other residents arguing among themselves in a number languages.  Maize stepped forward to try and end the arguments.  She unfortunately only made it worse (Lose 3 Endeavor points). Unable to agree on anything the survivors spent their time crafting more equipment. A Catarium as well.

In the darkness, Endless Screams were heard.  Gun Boat bravely stood among the others and convinced them that this was a good thing as it was yet another creature the could hunt (Screaming Antelope).  The Survivors resting in preparation of their up coming hunt.

I recently purchased the game Kingdom Death:Monster and convinced some friends to start a campaign with me.  We made it through the first two lantern years in our first session.  Everyone enjoyed the game and we intend to play again in a few weeks.  Now to get the monsters built and painted!

I thought I’d try to document the story of New Ticatown here on the blog as well as post painting updates.  Let us prepare to journey into the darkness.
